Art reflecting Citizenship

This 3-year project was initiated by CSN Consultancy, Colchester Consortium and firstsite and is supported by Arts Council East.

Seven artists are selected this year from the East of England to develop the work with the 14 primary schools that make up Colchester Consortium.  Each artist paired with two primary schools for an 8-day residency over the summer term. 

The artists collaborate with pupils and teachers in an exploration of the topical issue of ‘citizenship’: what it means to pupils at this point in their lives.  The project seeks to be innovative and creative for the artists, teachers and participants.  It aims to examine the influence of the arts and creative practice on the development of intelligent citizens by involving schools and their wider communities in hands-on activities.
