Another excellent Edublogs.org weblog

The ArC artists Project Space

The seven ArC artists and artist curator, Jo Chapman, have been busy developing their final artworks in the Project Space at firstsite.  Check back here to see how they have been developing ideas which were explored during the artists’ residencies in the Colchester Consoritum primary schools this summer.

The final artworks will be launched on Saturday 27 September at North Primary School as part of the celebration of the cultural olympiad.

This week has been a busy one at the ArC project space.

    Monday:
The ArC artists shared with the project steering group what they have been creating and how their ideas have developed. It was really interesting to discover how the artists felt the artworks would be used in the schools.

    Wednesday:
Jacqui was working away completing painting a special textile. Jacqui has experimented with lots of different types of paint to find the right one for her artwork. Its been a real challenge.
Her handmade suitcase also arrived today which has been beautifully crafted.

    Monday:

The ArC artists came together for a useful peer crit session. They discussed their ideas for each of their cases and their fellow artists fed back ideas, suggestions and comments. It seemed very useful for the artists to explain the process. I think it helped some of the artists clarify their own ideas in the final week of the project.

    Thursday:

Today Elaine, Ron and Natasha have been working hard in the Project Space. Elaine has been making her case from recycled materials. We have been talking to Phil, firstsite’s technician who puts up our exhibitions, to find out about art works and how they are transported.

Ron has been shopping and found some exciting finds for his case. They are safely stored in his case – I wonder if you can guess how you would use the new items?

Natasha has been cutting her foam and looking at materials for packing her artwork together in her case.

The artists will spending an additional week in the Project Space. Check back on the blog to find out what they create!

    Monday 11 August

Today Natasha and Elaine have been beavering away. Natasha’s case is almost finished with just the last coats of paint to go on. Elaine has been painting with a lot of matt white paint and also hase been researching playing cards!

Alison dropped in during the afternoon to show us the smallest case of the artwork. The items inside are beauticul and delicate. The case says fragile and it’s not wrong. Aunty Aida would certainly approve!

Yesterday, Linda has been working on her case. She has taken off a thick layer of varnish from the outside of the case only to discover that her green case is actually black!

Today Linda will be visiting Project Plastics to get a key part of her artwork fitted. We can’t wait to see how it works out!

Elaine was alos in yesterday. She has been developing new woodworking skills but spent most of yesterday with a paintbrush and pot of white paint – what can she be creating?

Jacqui also popped in and was surprised to find her work area decked out with balloons, banners and a birthday card. Jacqui is celebrating a very special birthday this week and everyone from the ArC project sends her many congratulations!
